ERA 3 START
Era 3 starts Tuesday, May 12, at 1 PM GMT (8 AM EDT, 5 AM PDT).
PREPARATION
ENGINE HOUSE
The engine house can be upgraded to level 15.
This is your number one priority when era 3 starts. Keep in mind these EH upgrades take several hours to build, so plenty of time to stockpile your cash. Max number of engines in Era 3 are 15. Total cost for EH 12 through EH 15 is $14,350.000 (less if you have a 20% reduction in station building cost voucher).
TRAINS
Goal: MORPHEUS
Tractive Force: 10 (max: 13)
Reliability: 80% (max: 80%)
Acceleration: 3/20 (max: 5/20)
Speed: 150 km/h (max: 200 km/h)
Purchase Cost: $1,000,000 (with all upgrades $1,430,000)
Spaces taken in EH: 2
For those WITH Era 2 coupling: stay on the Lynx (must be fully upgraded) and research to Morpheus.
For those with NO coupling of Era 2: research Odin with all upgrades, then research the shortest way to Morpheus. If you are less than 1 day off from coupling at start of Era 3, go on and finish the Era 2 coupling.
Yes, this takes up TWO slots in your Engine House, which means you have less trains to deal with. However, with the hauling capacity and speed of the Morpheus, you won't miss your lynxes once you upgrade. Keep in mind you do get to keep one train that takes up 1 engine slot, so you may want to keep a lynx, or throw in an era 3 train that's different and possibly better than a lynx.
Even if you decide the Morpheus isn't the best train for you because it does take up 2 engine slots, keep in mind you must research the train anyway in order to start researching coupling, which will be 60 points. You'll find you have to research just about every train in era 3 fully, so upgrade your lab immensely!
The bonus engine this era is the Isis.
ISIS
Tractive Force: 8
Reliability: 85%
Acceleration: 6/20
Speed: 120 km/h
